The NOAH Center is asking local households to help care for kittens while they grow ready for adoption.

In a recent appeal, the Stanwood-area animal shelter said an influx of kittens had increased its need for foster homes. A temporary home gives those animals a place to stay and helps the center make room for others.

Fostering is a commitment with a beginning and an end. On its program page, NOAH lists kitten and puppy placements ranging from about two weeks to three months. The animals may arrive with their mother, be old enough to eat solid food, or need formula feeding.

## How to get started

Begin with [NOAH’s online foster application](https://www.thenoahcenter.org/foster/?ref=justabouts.com). The center describes a three-step process: apply, attend an orientation at the facility, then work with its foster assistant on a first placement.

Before agreeing to a placement, talk with the team about the animals’ feeding schedule, the space they need, any pets already in your home and how long you can help. Ask which supplies and veterinary care the center provides and whom to contact if a kitten becomes unwell.

Those questions help match the assignment to the household. Someone able to care for older kittens may have a different schedule and setup from a person ready to take on bottle feeding.

People who cannot foster can still help with supplies. NOAH lists mother-and-baby cat food, kitten formula, nursing kits, heating pads or disks, and wet food among its ongoing foster-program needs. Check the current list with the center before purchasing or delivering items.

The NOAH Center is at **31300 Brandstrom Road, Stanwood**.
