Planning a trip to the coast? Washington has approved five afternoon and evening razor-clam digs Nov. 7–11 at Copalis and Mocrocks, with a different beach open on different days.

**Long Beach and Twin Harbors remain closed** because of elevated domoic acid levels, according to the [Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Nov. 3 announcement](https://wdfw.wa.gov/newsroom/news-release/wdfw-approves-five-days-razor-clam-digs-copalis-and-mocrocks-beaches-beginning-saturday-nov-7-0?ref=justabouts.com).

## Choose the right beach and date

| Date | Open beach | Low tide | Tide height |
| ------------------ | ---------- | --------- | ----------- |
| Saturday, Nov. 7 | Mocrocks | 5:06 p.m. | \-0.2 feet |
| Sunday, Nov. 8 | Copalis | 5:44 p.m. | \-0.6 feet |
| Monday, Nov. 9 | Copalis | 6:19 p.m. | \-0.7 feet |
| Tuesday, Nov. 10 | Mocrocks | 6:54 p.m. | \-0.7 feet |
| Wednesday, Nov. 11 | Mocrocks | 7:29 p.m. | \-0.5 feet |

Digging is allowed **noon to midnight only** on these approved dates. The times in the table mark low tide. WDFW says digging is usually most successful one to two hours before low tide.

## Sort out the license and equipment first

Diggers 16 and older need an applicable 2026–27 license. Check [WDFW’s fishing-license options](https://wdfw.wa.gov/licenses/fishing?ref=justabouts.com) before leaving home. A razor-clam license covers razor clams; check the coverage of any license you already hold. Under [state law](https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=77.32.520&ref=justabouts.com), children younger than 16 are exempt from this shellfish-license requirement. Keep the license available for inspection while harvesting.

Bring a separate container for every digger. A shovel or a properly sized clam tube is permitted: the [gear rule](https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=220-330-120&ref=justabouts.com) specifies a minimum outside diameter of 4 inches for a round tube, or outside dimensions of at least 4 by 3 inches for an elliptical tube.

The [daily limit](https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=220-330-010&ref=justabouts.com) is 15 razor clams per person. Keep the first 15 dug, including small clams and those with broken shells. [Returning razor clams to the beach or water is prohibited](https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=220-330-170&ref=justabouts.com), regardless of size or condition. Each person’s catch must remain in their own container.

## Check the surf before making the drive

WDFW warns that increased swell could make this series difficult, especially when swells exceed 11 feet. Check the [National Weather Service ocean forecast](https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=PZZ156&ref=justabouts.com) and [current digging and closure updates](https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfishing-regulations/razor-clams?ref=justabouts.com) before departure. An approved opening does not make rough surf safe.

For an evening outing, pack a working light, warm layers and rain protection, and leave time to get back to your vehicle after digging.
