*Updated Nov. 5, 2026.*

Snohomish County is asking residents to check the flood risk around their homes and everyday travel routes as they prepare for winter weather.

In an [Oct. 26 reminder](https://snohomishcountywa.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/3275?ref=justabouts.com), the county highlighted maps, alert services and other resources available before, during and after a flood. Here are the tools to keep handy.

## Check your home and regular routes

The [Snohomish County Hazard Viewer](https://snoco.org/hazards?ref=justabouts.com) lets you search by address for known natural hazards, including flood zones. Consider the routes you use to reach work, school and family as well as the area around your home.

## Get emergency alerts and river updates

[SnoCoAlerts](https://smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=snohomish&ref=justabouts.com) provides emergency notifications for threatened areas.

For river conditions, the county's [Real-Time Flood Information System](https://snohomish.onerain.com/?ref=justabouts.com) offers maps, gauge readings and email or text notifications when selected gauges enter or leave flood phases. Look for “Subscribe to Flood Notifications” on the site.

Gauge notifications track observed conditions. SnoCoAlerts carries life-safety information and instructions for immediate action. The [Public Safety Hub](https://snoco.org/safety?ref=justabouts.com) brings together emergency information, maps and flood forecasts.

## Check roads before heading out

A [Nov. 5 county reminder](https://www.facebook.com/238854116201790%5F1605066054995989) also includes a historical map of roads that have flooded, including routes near Stanwood. It can help with planning, but it does not show which roads are closed now.

Use the [county road-closure map](https://snohomishcountywa.gov/RoadClosureMap?ref=justabouts.com) to look for closures along your route. County Public Works maintains roads in unincorporated areas; for state highways, check [WSDOT's travel map](https://wsdot.com/Travel/Real-time/Map/?ref=justabouts.com). Review the dates and times shown with road and river information before making travel plans.

## Keep the county’s Flood Safety Guide handy

The county’s [Flood Safety Guide](https://www.snohomishcountywa.gov/947/Flood-Safety-Guide?ref=justabouts.com) brings together preparedness and recovery information. The county says it updates the guide annually and distributes it to floodplain-area residents. The page links to the downloadable guide and lists places to ask for a printed copy.

## Keep the right contacts handy

For flooding or drainage problems on county-maintained roads, the [Road Maintenance contact](https://snohomishcountywa.gov/206/Roads-Central?ref=justabouts.com) is [425-388-7500](tel:+14253887500). For life-threatening emergencies, call 911.

The [Flood Information Center](https://snohomishcountywa.gov/FloodInformation?ref=justabouts.com) also links to preparedness and recovery guides, property-risk information and other county resources.
