A garage cleanout can leave you with a practical question: where does all this stuff go? Before loading the car, Snohomish County residents can check the county’s [Materials Acceptance List](https://snohomishcountywa.gov/6815/Waste-Acceptance-Guidelines?ref=justabouts.com) for an item-by-item guide to its solid-waste facilities.

The list separates garbage and recycling from items that need special preparation, belong at the household hazardous-waste station or cannot be accepted. An item’s notes can matter as much as its category, so read across the whole row.

## Find the item before you load it

You can scroll through the alphabetical list or select a letter to jump to that section. On a computer, use your browser’s Find command to search for a word. On a phone, open the browser menu and look for Find or Find on Page.

Check the exact item and the additional-information column, including any size limits or directions to another service. The county cautions that curbside collection companies may follow different guidelines, so this list should not replace your hauler’s instructions for your home bins.

## A North County option in Arlington

The [North County Recycling & Transfer Station](https://www.snohomishcountywa.gov/465/Facility-Locations?ref=justabouts.com) is at **19600 63rd Ave. NE in Arlington**. Its garbage and recycling areas normally operate seven days a week, **7 a.m.–4:30 p.m.**

The county asks customers to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing to allow processing time. Customers unload their own vehicles, and the recycling area is for residential customers.

The station closes on New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The county’s facility page also lists fees, vehicle restrictions and the hours for other locations, including the Granite Falls Drop Box. Check it before setting out, particularly around a holiday.
