## Why the court matters

The [nine-member Supreme Court](https://www.courts.wa.gov/newsinfo/resources/?altMenu=Citi&fa=newsinfo%5Fjury.display&fileID=supreme&folderID=jury%5Fguide&ref=justabouts.com) is Washington’s highest court. Its decisions set precedent for courts across the state, and it has final rule-making authority for Washington’s courts. Those responsibilities extend to the courts serving our communities.

Regular Supreme Court terms are six years. This ballot also includes shorter terms: Positions 1 and 5 are two-year unexpired terms, as listed in the [state’s candidate certification](https://www.sos.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2026-05/2026%20Certification%20of%20Candidates%20to%20Primary%20Election.pdf?ref=justabouts.com#page=19).

## Counting continues

These results remain unofficial. Later ballot counts can change the totals and margins. Follow the [official state results page](https://app.enhancedvoting.com/results/public/washington/elections/20261103?ref=justabouts.com) for updates.
