A walk through Darrington’s Old School Park now comes with a story to follow, one page at a time.
Darrington Library announced the town’s new Story Trail this week, with Wolf, Cougar, & Bluejay Go Hunting by Billy Moses as the first book featured along the route. The library scheduled an Oct. 28 unveiling with a reading by Sauk Suiattle Tribal Elder Mary Porter.
The continuing attraction gives families a way to combine reading with time outside. Move from page to page at your own pace, pausing over the pictures or talking about what might happen next.
Plan a visit
Old School Park is at 1026 Alvord St. in Darrington. The town lists a playground, gazebo and bike pump track among the park’s features, with Whitehorse Mountain rising above it.
It is an easy idea to work into a family park visit: follow the book together, then leave some time to play. Sno-Isle Libraries describes its Story Trails as picture-book experiences generally aimed at children ages 3-8, while welcoming readers of all ages.
For a fall outing, plan for the weather and check current park information before you leave. The town lists restrooms as a spring-and-summer amenity. The library’s announcement does not specify the route’s length or surface, so families who need particular access information can check with the library before visiting.
