Justabouts is an individually operated local news and events publication based in Marysville, Washington. This policy explains how we handle information from people who visit justabouts.com, subscribe, or contact us.
For privacy questions or requests, email contact@justabouts.com.
Information we collect and how we use it
Subscriptions and accounts. When you sign up, we collect your email address and any name you provide. Our membership system also records signup information, subscription preferences, and account activity. We use this information to manage access, deliver newsletters you subscribe to, provide account support, and understand how readers find and use Justabouts.
Messages and submissions. If you email a tip, event, correction, or inquiry, we receive your contact details, message, and attachments. We use them to respond, evaluate submissions, check information, and maintain editorial records. Information you submit for publication may appear in a story or event listing. Please distinguish information intended for publication from information provided only to help us follow up.
Website use. Services that deliver the website process connection information such as your IP address. Analytics can record pages viewed, referral sources, browser and device information, and approximate location to help us understand readership and improve the site.
Cookies and analytics choices
Essential functions. Our membership system uses cookies for sign-in and account sessions. We also use browser storage to remember your analytics preference.
Built-in site statistics. Our publishing platform provides first-party, cookie-free web analytics. These statistics remain active when you decline Google Analytics. When you are signed in, viewed content can be associated with your member ID and membership status.
Optional Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 only after you accept optional analytics. It uses cookies and technical usage information to measure visits and traffic sources. We do not connect your subscriber name or email address to Google Analytics. Google signals, user-provided data collection, and advertising personalization are disabled.
Choose Accept analytics or Decline analytics in the banner. You can change your choice using Analytics preferences at the bottom of the website. Withdrawing consent stops future Google Analytics collection in that browser and clears the Google Analytics cookies our preference tool can access. It does not erase information already collected. Your choice applies to that browser; clearing browser storage or using another browser may require a new choice.
Read Google’s Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Newsletter engagement
Newsletter open and link-click tracking is enabled. Our newsletter system records opening activity and clicks and can associate them with your member account. We use this information to understand readership and improve our newsletters. The website’s Google Analytics preference does not control newsletter tracking.
You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter or contact us for help. Unsubscribing stops newsletter delivery; it does not automatically delete your member account.
Service providers and disclosures
We use service providers to host the site, manage memberships, deliver email, and provide analytics. Our publishing platform uses supporting providers for services such as email delivery and native analytics. Google processes optional analytics information. Namecheap forwards messages sent to contact@justabouts.com to the operator’s email inbox.
Fonts and site components also load from external delivery providers, including Bunny Fonts and jsDelivr. Loading them shares connection information with those providers, including when you decline Google Analytics.
These providers process information to supply their services and may process it outside Washington or outside your country. Their own policies also describe their processing. See the publishing provider’s privacy information and email-forwarding provider’s privacy information.
We do not sell our subscriber list or give it to advertisers. We may disclose information when required by applicable law or when reasonably necessary to address security incidents, fraud, or legal claims.
Retention and your requests
We keep member information to operate accounts and subscriptions. We retain messages and editorial records while they are needed to handle inquiries, evaluate or document reporting, address corrections, or meet legal and security needs. Some information may remain in provider backups or records after deletion from active systems.
Our Google Analytics property is configured for two months of event-data retention and fourteen months of user-data retention. New activity can restart the user-data retention period. These settings do not remove standard aggregated reports, which can remain available longer.
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with your account or messages by emailing contact@justabouts.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We assess requests against the information we hold, the purpose for retaining it, and applicable requirements.
Reporting and external links
Our reporting may include information from public sources and material submitted for coverage. Deleting a subscription account does not automatically remove published reporting. Send concerns about a story to contact@justabouts.com so we can review them.
Links to other websites lead to services with their own privacy practices. This policy covers Justabouts; it does not govern those external websites.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. We will provide additional notice of material changes when appropriate.
