A game of Simón dice, student-made comic strips and a capybara in boots are helping Lakewood students put their Spanish vocabulary to work.

In an Oct. 16 classroom update, Lakewood School District describes how teacher Anthony Meza-Santos’ Spanish I students practiced listening by following Spanish instructions about body parts and clothing.

The class also worked on comic strips built around chapter vocabulary and read El Capibara Con Botas, or The Capybara in Boots, to develop reading skills.

Lakewood says students can earn World Language credit through Spanish courses and continue studying the language for up to four years. The classroom activities give beginning students several ways to use what they are learning: listening, reading and creating their own short stories.
