A trip to the food bank takes some planning when you don’t have a car. Community Transit is directing residents to a guide that pairs local food banks with nearby bus routes and, in some communities, Zip Shuttle service.
The agency highlighted food and basic-needs resources in an Oct. 21 roundup. For readers in our area, these are the connections listed in its food-bank transit guide:
- Arlington Community Food Bank, 19118 63rd Ave. NE: routes 220 and 230, or Arlington Zip Shuttle.
- Darrington Food Bank, 1080 Sauk Ave.: Darrington Zip Shuttle.
- Granite Falls Community Food Bank, 307 N. Alder Ave.: route 280.
- Lake Stevens Community Food Bank, 8021 20th St. SE: route 280 or Lake Stevens Zip Shuttle.
- Marysville Community Food Bank, 4150 88th St. NE: routes 201, 202 and 222.
- Stanwood Camano Food Bank, 27030 102nd Ave. NW: route 240.
Check the trip before heading out
Confirm distribution hours and any appointment or registration arrangements with the food bank first. The transit guide links to each organization and to nearby stops. Use Plan My Trip for the journey from your own starting point, and check rider alerts for service changes.
Zip Shuttle is an on-demand shared ride within a defined service area. Its Arlington, Darrington and Lake Stevens zones operate separately, so a Zip trip cannot take you from one town’s zone to another. Request a ride through the Zip Shuttle app or by calling 833-342-5947; check the zone map and service hours before booking.
Help with fares
The standard adult fare on Community Transit buses and Zip is $2.50 per ride. Youth 18 and younger ride free, and qualifying riders can pay $1 with ORCA LIFT or an eligible reduced-fare permit. Some residents enrolled in designated benefit programs qualify for a free subsidized annual pass. The agency’s fare-program page explains eligibility and enrollment.
