Skyline Elementary marked the start of its next chapter with an Oct. 12 groundbreaking for a new school building, bringing students, staff, district leaders and project partners together for the ceremony.

A Lake Stevens School District feature follows first-grade teacher Errin Jacobs-Howard as construction takes shape outside her classroom. Hired by the district in October 1992, she is described as Skyline’s longest-tenured teacher.

The replacement school is part of the district’s 2025 School Construction Bond, approved by local voters to address aging facilities and improve learning spaces, the district says.

Jacobs-Howard’s connection to Skyline spans generations. Her three children attended the school, and she has taught children of former students and mentored future teachers. She plans to teach in the new building before retiring, according to the district’s story.

The feature offers a teacher’s view of a construction project that will change the school’s physical setting while carrying forward decades of classroom relationships.
