Southwest County Park in Edmonds is closed until further notice, while hazardous trees are limiting access to part of Paradise Valley Conservation Area near Woodinville.

A county release dated Oct. 28 and posted Oct. 30 outlines a tentative forest-treatment plan for Paradise Valley’s affected area. Visitors should check posted restrictions before choosing a route.

Paradise Valley: affected trails remain closed

The county scheduled a one-day closure of the entire conservation area, at 23210 Paradise Lake Road near Woodinville, on Oct. 29 to build a reroute. The new trail, connecting to Wetland Plateau Trail, was scheduled to open Oct. 30. Check the county’s current parks notice and on-site signs for access updates.

Cascara, Whispering Firs, Mainline and Lloyd Loop trails, along with the Lloyd barn and outbuildings, remain closed, according to the county’s Paradise Valley notice.

A forest survey found hundreds of trees affected by advanced laminated root rot within 64 acres of the 793-acre park, the county says. Check the posted closures before choosing a route.

The county tentatively anticipates tree removal in fall 2027 and hopes the affected area can reopen after replanting in late winter 2028. Those dates depend on funding, permitting and planning. The timeline applies to the affected part of Paradise Valley.

Southwest County Park: closed until further notice

The closure of the 120-acre park at 17920 Olympic View Drive in Edmonds began Oct. 29. The county says many red alders that became established about 75 years ago are declining or dying, creating a falling-tree hazard.

The park’s official page lists an indefinite closure. A forest mitigation plan is being developed, and the county has announced no reopening date.

One more date to check

Rhody Ridge Arboretum will close Nov. 2–5 for maintenance, the county’s rolling notice says.
