Friends of Camano Island Parks will open its winter-spring walking season with a guided outing at Cama Beach on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The public walks run on the first Saturday of each month from November through June. The group’s 2026–27 announcement lists a 9:45 a.m. start and a finish by noon, with a moderate pace adjusted for children and adults.
Where to meet and what to expect
For the Nov. 7 walk, meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Ivy Way Trailhead off Dry Lake Road. Dry Lake Road can be reached from Elger Bay Road, just north of Elger Bay School, or from Monticello Road. Look for FOCIP walk signs.
The route heads downhill into the northeast part of Cama Beach Historical State Park on the Cross Island Trail, crosses West Camano Drive, and continues along the Marine Loop, Bluff and Old Entrance trails, according to the organizer’s current announcement.
The planned walk is 2.7 miles, with a return shuttle available. People who choose to walk back uphill to the trailhead will cover 3.9 miles in total. FOCIP says a Discover Pass is not needed for this outing.
Before you go
FOCIP recommends clothing suited to the weather and sturdy shoes or boots, and asks walkers not to bring dogs. Walks go ahead in rain, but the group cancels them for snow, extremely high winds or lightning.
Cama Beach remains a day-use park with ongoing facility closures. State Parks currently lists portable toilets in parking lots A and C and on the beach, while several restroom facilities remain closed. Its park project page carries the latest facility notices.
