Camano Island Fire & Rescue will hold an islandwide earthquake-response drill Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m., bringing emergency crews and volunteer patients to locations around the island.

The full-day exercise will simulate a damaged State Route 532 bridge, collapsed buildings, fires and multiple injuries. Crews will practice responding when normal travel routes and outside assistance are unavailable, according to the department’s Oct. 28 announcement.

What residents may see

Emergency vehicles will travel between exercise locations without lights or sirens. Personnel will move in and out of buildings and practice treating and transporting volunteers playing patients.

Locations include the fire department’s administration office and fire stations; Brentwood, Camano Hills and Lost Lake; Camano Center; South Camano Grange; the American Legion; and IGA.

Camano Fire says traffic and public transportation will continue operating during the drill. Fully staffed personnel working outside the exercise will remain available for real emergencies. Call 911 if you need an emergency response.
