Updated Nov. 5, 2026, following Community Transit’s vote to approve the consolidation agreement.

Everett’s transit merger has cleared its two local votes. Community Transit’s board unanimously approved the agreement Thursday, Nov. 5, following the Everett City Council’s unanimous vote Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Community Transit announced the approvals and plans to take over Everett Transit operations on April 1, 2027. The transfer is subject to final Federal Transit Administration approval under the board resolution.

What riders can expect

The operational handoff comes before the biggest changes to bus service. Existing Everett routes will remain largely in place while Community Transit develops an integrated network. Minor adjustments may still happen during regular service changes.

The agency’s rider FAQ says Everett Transit’s current fares will stay in place through at least April 2028. It currently lists Everett’s adult bus fare as $2. Any change to the fare structure would require board action after staff analysis and public input.

Community Transit also says it will continue the same paratransit service for Everett riders enrolled as of March 31, 2027.

More service, with public input first

Residents will be invited to help shape routes and connections starting in January 2027, with three rounds of feedback planned during the year. Expanded service will begin in phases in 2028.

The agreement calls for 50% more transit service in Everett by 2031, including more frequent buses and longer operating hours. An on-demand Zip Shuttle zone is planned for spring 2028; the agency’s detailed timeline identifies March.

Everett’s transit sales-tax rate is scheduled to rise from 0.6% to 1.2% on April 1, 2027. That adds 6 cents to a $10 taxable purchase. The tax change is separate from the existing Everett fares being retained.

The official consolidation page has the transition timeline and will carry information about opportunities to participate. For now, riders can continue using their regular routes and watch for ordinary service notices.
