Glenwood Elementary families can get a first look at the school’s planned replacement, including the temporary move that will come before it opens.
Lake Stevens School District has released concept drawings for a three-story school designed for about 650 students. The district expects Glenwood students and staff to spend the 2027–28 school year at the new Elementary School #8 while their existing campus is rebuilt. The replacement school is expected to open in fall 2028.
What is planned
The design includes 26 learning spaces, rooms for student support services, a library, music room, gym and cafeteria. Classroom doors, secure perimeter fencing and separate bus and family drop-off areas are part of the plans.
Building upward allows more of the limited site to remain available for outdoor use. Plans include a turf field and an outdoor classroom near the neighboring wetland. Glenwood’s familiar round window is also set to become part of the new building.
The district’s design announcement identifies the drawings as concepts that may change.
Why replace the building?
Glenwood was built in 1992. The district says its evaluation of aging systems, construction costs and site constraints led it to favor replacement over the original modernization plan. It reports that the school board approved that approach in April 2026.
The official bond-project page lists an estimated cost of $70.7 million, including a $12.3 million state contribution and a $58.4 million local tax share. The work is funded through the voter-approved 2025 school construction bond.
Families can follow that project page for construction and relocation updates as plans develop.
