Granite Falls Middle School’s girls cross-country team finished third in its conference championship meet at South Whidbey, with Emma Hansen also taking third individually, the school district reported.

Hansen passed two runners in the final 200 meters to claim her place. Teammates Jazmin Amaral, Camilia Perkins and Charlee Hansen finished in the top 20 and ran personal-best times, according to the district’s account.

Arya Glenn recorded her best time in three years, adding another strong finish for the girls.

On the boys side, Quinton Nieman finished among the top 20 with a personal best after passing runners near the finish. Drew Laycock and Levi Arnold also set personal-best times.

The district described the championship course as the team’s toughest of the year and celebrated the finish as the close of its season. The results offer a snapshot of a team whose improvement reached beyond a single podium place, with runners on both squads finishing with faster personal times.
