Three Utsalady Elementary students have received Student Hero Awards after helping a classmate during a medical emergency, according to the Stanwood-Camano School District.
The district identified the students as Marain, Daniel and Lainey. It said they stayed calm, acted quickly and worked together when their classmate needed help several weeks earlier, helping keep the child safe and making sure help arrived.
Two Camano Fire first responders visited the school on Camano Island to present the awards at an assembly. For one of the presenters, it was a return to familiar ground: Aiden, identified by his first name in the announcement, is a former Utsalady student.
The district praised the children's courage, kindness and quick thinking, and thanked Camano Island Fire and Rescue for helping the school celebrate them.
