South winds could gust to 50 mph across Island County and the lowlands of northwestern Snohomish County on Friday, Nov. 6, according to a National Weather Service wind advisory.

The advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Friday. NWS Seattle expects south winds of 15 to 25 mph.

For households in the advisory area, a useful first step is to secure outdoor items that could blow away. The weather service says gusts may send loose objects flying, bring down tree limbs and cause some power outages.

Where the advisory applies

The affected forecast zones include Island County and the lowlands of western Skagit and northwestern Snohomish counties. San Juan County and the western Whatcom County lowlands are also included.

If you are planning a drive this afternoon, use extra caution. The weather service warns that these winds can make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
