Boaters planning a November trip on Lake Stevens should watch for a short closure at the Davies Beach boat launch while consultants treat the lake to help control algal blooms.

The city’s Nov. 6 update targets the week of Nov. 16, weather permitting, for the alum treatment. The launch will close for one to two days during the work. The city says exact dates will be announced later.

That updates the earlier timetable of the second week of November. Check the city’s latest notice before arranging a launch from Davies Beach.

Why the lake is being treated

On its lake-management page, the city explains that aluminum sulfate, commonly called alum, binds phosphorus in the lake’s water and sediments. Reducing that nutrient is part of its effort to control algal blooms.

The city describes in-lake treatment as one part of its broader approach, alongside stormwater maintenance and efforts to reduce phosphorus runoff. Its advice to residents includes maintaining septic systems, limiting fertilizer use and managing pet waste.

Questions about the planned work can be emailed to surfacewater@lakestevenswa.gov.

Updated Nov. 6, 2026, with the city’s revised treatment week. Exact treatment and boat-launch closure dates remain pending.
