A free Lake Stevens workshop will show residents how to turn willow cuttings into new plants that can help stabilize streambanks and shorelines.

The Live Stake Harvesting Workshop is Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will meet at Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue Station 81, 12409 21st St. NE. Parking is available in the gravel lot across from the station.

Snohomish Conservation District and the City of Lake Stevens are offering the session. Participants will learn how to cut, store and plant the dormant stems, known as live stakes.

Organizers suggest bringing work gloves, sturdy rubber or leather boots, hand shears or loppers, and clothing suited to the weather. Bring a bucket or bag if you would like to take cuttings home. Extra tools and supplies will be available.

Reserve a free spot and see the conservation district’s workshop details.
